Planning for the future
There will be another crisis with your business or at your customer. Plan for the inevitable.
Welcome back to my podcast Scaling Out!
It goes without saying that the last 18mo have been a whirlwind. Personal, professional, etc etc. So much had to happen and so much has changed was your business ready for it? Using the recent history as an example can really set a stage for investment rather than reaction. There were several notable examples in the news, remember the call for COBAL programmers to assist Unemployment Insurance agencies with adjusting the mainframe to address the increased need & changing rules around providing benefits to the unemployed? What about the scramble for real data on number of beds available in your area hospitals? There are always things that need to be upgraded or improved and it is typical to see a lack of investment dollars to complete this work. But now, more than ever we can point to the fact that a business needs to create an environment today that will be flexible for the crisis that will happen in the future. Because this crisis isn’t the first and wont be the last, it could span the negative to the positive – it could be a stock market crash, a war, a major policy change or a huge technological advancement.
That is really why I love the solution that we provide customers. I continue to repeat that you can really do anything with our software, its extremely flexible, very efficient, well documented & superbly supported. Sometimes it might be more expensive to do it all with one tool, but when it hits the fan, you could do it all.
So this then boils down to understanding how to prepare for the future. You must consider the short term & long term goals. If you can upgrade or establish the framework now, you can address the majority of challenges head on. Of course, you will face difficulties in gaining the budget to upgrade everything at once, so prioritize objectives and plan with long term goals in mind.
Thanks everyone for continuing to listen in. Until next time, stay safe!
